I need some wrenchs, a jack, and jack stands. All i have is good racthets and sockets. Any recommendations on quality tools that wont break the bank? May be a silly question but all i have is this small chest from my father. Should i just go to Lowes and buy some?

Can't go wrong with Craftsman tools, lifetime warranty on all their hand tools. They sell a variety of starter kits. I believe the Kobalt tools at Lowes have a warranty also.

Don't skimp on the jack and jack stands. Not worth your life. When it comes to wrenches and sockets I like craftsmen. They have a lifetime warranty and you never have trouble finding a sears store. You also don't have to worry about mailing in parts.

I don't reccomend the kits thought. Buy what you need, those kits seem like a good deal, and you do save money then if you were to buy them all seperate, but how often will you use standard sized tools, I know I never do. Just buy yourself a metric wrench set, 3/8th metric socket set (6 point short and 12 point long usually works well) a good 3/8th rachet (this will work for just about everything you need) Then pick up a screwdriver set and other stuff along the way if you need it.

The kits are fine for the price IMO. the standard box is like $50 on black friday and its the set i use. yeah i only touch half of it, and stuff but you never know when you will use it, that and a set of wrenches wont go above $100 IMO a good deal, rather than getting every socket that you need. It has every socket for you. good starting point.

Millimeters are a unit of the metric system...and no they are not easier to use. Inches and stuff is an imperial measurement which is only used by some nations.

I'm just saying your paying for things like allen wrenches, drivers, standard sockets, 3 different length ratchets, a lot of stuff that is not needed. While it's a good deal, you could just buy tools that will be more useful with the money. Now if you have a Honda and a Ford, it might be a good deal.

As for jacks op, I would recommend one of the lower profile jacks, and for jack stands, they make these all black ones that are their cheapest set (I have these and I don't feel completely safe under them), then they have another set that are heavier duty, black stand with a red center piece (I have these as well and they're very nice for the money) that I recommend.
