I need estimates

Sorry for the non-search, newbie post. I know how annoying they are.

My car was just totaled in a 5 car pile up, and I now have a fractured spine. I was not at fault so the driver of the other car has full coverage, so hopefully I can afford a new car.

I previously drove a '93 Nissan NX with a few basic mods. The car was a 2 door, 2300 (Curb weight) lb, and was pushing roughly 140 whp. 5 speed manual, fun car. I was planning on going turbo and had a list of parts lined up to be ordered, but obviously that is out of the question now. I'm typically a Nissan guy, but was just seeing what else is out there.

So...

I'm looking at the acuras right now. I saw these specifications on one of the 3 engines in placed in the 1994+ acuras

dohc I41 1.8 / 110 195 130 5-speed manual: 25/31 5-speed manual: 25.7

Is that a rare engine to find in the cars?

Second question, what engine is the best platform to begin to modify based on compression and the ability to handle boost or just a straight up NA motor.

Third, our prices generally cost efficient, Like a 8.2lb fidanza flywheel was roughly 260 with shipping, can I expect low prices like that, or are Acura prices typically higher?

And last, how hard are the Acuras to work on?

Again, sorry for the newb question, and not using the search function. I just didn't plan on searching for everything and doing all that research if I decide against the car.

Thanks for the help.

Integra parts are fairly cheap compared to most cars.

For the 94-01 Integras there are 3 engine choices.

RS, LS and GS: B18B1-DOHC 1.8L non-VTEC 142hp. 5 speed or auto

GSR: B18C1-DOHC 1.8L VTEC 170hp. 5 speed only

Type R: B18C5-DOHC 1.8L VTEC 195hp. 5 speed only

They are all decent platforms to start with but the GSR and Type R will be the obvious better choices for making power.

How does a Vtec do with turbo?

Cause from my basic understanding of Vtec, is that they kick in at a certain rpm, how would something like that mix with a turbo, which also begins spooling at certain Rpms, do they overlap?

Also with cams, do they overlap, are they plug and play or require tuning to work with the vtec?

Thank you :D

From an insurance company's point of view...your car is most likely going to be worth a few hundred bucks...$800 at most. It sounds like your best bet will be with buying a G2 Integra (1990-1993) unless you have some more cash to throw in on this.

Another thing you might want to keep in mind is that insuring an Integra is also going to cost you considerable more than what you were paying on the NX. Integras are looked at as theft magnets, boy racers, and at the same time "a luxurious Acura," therefor increasing the insurance rates based on those stereotypes.

Assuming you had an NX 2000, an LS/RS/GS Integra is about the same in engine performance. Both being DOHC engines with 140hp. An Integra weighs about 300-400lbs more than an NX though.

Like dc2gs-r stated, the GSR and the Type-R are the better platforms for tuning as thats what they were built for. People on numerous forums have boosted every model of the Integra, all respond well with solid internal work and a good tune.

Integras are relatively easy to work on, and parts are all over the place. There is a HUGE used market running on numerous forums along the internet (here, Honda-Tech, Team-Integra, etc). As for pricing, I wouldn't expect anything to be "out of hand." You'll pay much higher for "quality" parts from manufacturers such as Mugen and Spoon...and products from say Greddy, Apexi, HKS, etc should be roughly the same. Parts for the GSR and Type-R are generally a little bit more expensive than some parts for the LS/RS/GS.

KBB = 3,600 for excellent condition, and knowing how insurance companies work it will probably be about half.
I also have pain and suffering damages cause I'm not allowed to return to work OR school. Also, we plan to follow up with a lawsuit. I mean a fractured spine is no beuno. The driver was doing about 50 and didn't even hit her breaks, she then ran and denied the accident so it was a hit and run, and she was promptly taken to jail.

Insurance isn't as much of a problem.

If I DO go integra I will be grabbing a type-r platform

Good luck finding a Type-R... Especially in the states, they are very low-number production cars.... You should just go with a GSR, especially if you want to go turbo... If you want to go turbo, i'd get a non-VTEC for the lower compression ratio. You will be making plenty of power even on a non-VTEC... A GSR will be available to find, a Type-R will be almost impossible to find, especially a legit type-r. You could always get a RS or LS or even a GSR and swap a Type-R motor into it....
