Shift to a lower gear? Lol.
I mean if it's stop and go keep it in either first or second and shift accordingly with how fast you get going.
If you don't get going too fast but don't want to switch gears you can just keep it in second and start in that gear from a stop.

ok so your driving your driving, and you see some traffic, down shift and brake to match their speed, like he said shift accordingly to your speed, if you are on the free way and you have to slow down id drop right down to third and use the brakes to match your speed, if you need to go down further do so, if not keep it at 3rd, you cant be afraid to use your clutch.

yea i know to downshift. but like i meant when yer actually get there. my stepdad taught me this method use for creeping like at an intersection. k lets say from a dead stop he said put it in first give it gas and as soon as i feel it pullin me step on tha clutch and tha brake. i was juss wondering if thats what i should do when im actually in tha stop and go traffic. cuz there is usually alot of stop and go at toll plaza where i go. so should i juss very slowly give it gas and if it starts to roll back tap a lil on tha gas again?? or is there any other way? oh and if there is a stop its usually like less than 20 seconds

And once you get more comfortable you might want to get into the habit of rev matching when you down shift, helps save the life of the clutch if you can do it properly.
But if you know you're coming to a stop, try to avoid engine braking and just use your brakes..pads are cheaper to replace than a clutch.

usually what i do when im coming to a stop, i shift into neutral a lil before tha stop then juss apply tha foot brake. then shift into first and takeoff.(haha im still learning how to get better at that). but when i make a turn my stepdad told me to slow down first downsift RIGHT before tha turn. are any of my methods wrong?? is there any other proper way of coming to a complete stop or making a turn without stressing tha engine or clutch??

When I see traffic ahead I put it in nuetral and coast up to it. Depending on what speed im going, Ill shift into the accordingly when the traffic picks up.

In dead stop and go, youre just sitting in first, move a bit, then put the clutch back in when you have to stop. I dont know about everyone elses car, but my car does not like crawling in first gear so I get moving then put the clutch back in to coast till I need to move a bit further.

You will get the hang of it with first hand experience.

MIRRORIMG so when im in a dead stop and go, step both on tha clutch and tha brake?? or juss tha clutch? then let go and give it gas when its time to move again right? or am i wrong

When you come up on traffic...
-Push in clutch and brake
OR
-Push in clutch, put into neutral, release clutch and brake

In stop and go, you will want to use the first method, because you will get tired quickly of continually having to put it in neutral, and then back into first. Pushing the clutch in basically puts the car into neutral.

If you only push the clutch in, your just coasting, not slowing down. You need to use the brake pedal to stop the car.

thanks mirrorimg. that made it clearer for me. dang i feel really amature at this but oh well thats how i learn is by asking questions. but yea so basically in stop and go i gotta ride tha clutch huh

I do the coasting to a stop, or the rev matching drop down. go to an empty parking lot and practice slowing and and stoping in traffic situations.
