Well, first off welcome!!!

Secondly, probably everyone here will say YES, buy the Integra lol.

Third, the Integra is a pretty safe vehicle. Been around forums for a few years and seen pictures of people rolling, slamming, and crashing the shit out of Integras and living through it with little or no injury.

What year and model are you looking at buying? Good to hear you work hard for the car! Keep it up. Smart idea putting some money aside for repair and maintenance.

Sounds like your best bet might be to check into a 2nd generation Integra...pending on if you like the look/feel of the car. You can DEFINITELY find one of those between $1000-2000 in good running condition.

You might be able to pick up a mid-90's 3rd generation Integra sub-$2000, but keep in mind its probably going to have some rediculous mileage on it and/or flaws.

Best advice I can give is to be patient and don't jump on the first car you find. Go out and test drive a couple and see which ones suit you best, while keeping in mind things like insurance, maintenance, etc.

Good thing about being young is maybe hop on your parent's insurance policy and save you a couple bills. Keep ur grades up and that'll also save you some coin.

Good luck! 8)

^Good advice.

Honestly, it's pretty common for integra's to go well past 200k and still be in good condition. A friend of mine on here TRACKS his teg with over 220k miles on the odometer. Now, that's not to say a car with 200k+ miles will require little or no maintenance, but it probably won't be breaking every week either (as some other brands/cars would).

As for safety, it's as safe as any other car in its class.

My Integra's are the funnest things I've ever had in my entire life. Every time I drive -even in horrid SoCal traffic - it's a blast. I've owned quite a few cars, including a 300zx; the integra is still more enjoyable. If you buy one, you won't be disappointed.

They will go far more than 200k, and everyone would agree with that, I just sold mine with 246k, still kicking great, of course you will have to do the maintainance, but that is expected of any car. Parts are cheap, most fun car I have owned yet, and probably going to buy another soon, if not a teg, then an rsx.

That is when you take someone who is a little bit more knowledgable with you to go look at it, a friend that knows honda's(acura's) or family mechanic or something along those lines, and all that good stuff. You will learn alot here, the members here are very helpful, and know more than anyone I have come across on a forum!!

Don't worry man just be calm and use common sense and you won't get stiffed.

Most common things to look for:

-Bad CV joints: test by driving in a cul-de-sac and drive the car in a circle at full-lock both ways

-3rd gear grind: very common on Hondas

-Listen for engine knocks or weird noises: TEST CARS WITH THE WINDOWS DOWN!

-Make sure the seller can prove the maintenance history

-Drive it hard; make sure the car is strong

-Listen for squeaks in the suspension and brakes

-Make sure it's not stolen

-Make sure it doesn't have a salvage title due to an accident

-Make sure all the doors and main panels line up

You're probably not going to find a perfect gem within your budget, but you can definitely find a strong car that will need minimal fixes to be great and reliable.

Oh and also, Craigslist is your friend. Idk where you're located, but SoCal has a plethora of cheap Hondas and Acuras if you're relatively close
