short shifter will still do have space like that. I used electric tape, and wrap around the shifter underneath that shiftboot to stop it drop down. simple

You just need something under the boot to keep it from slipping down, as already said, a ziptie will work (but it will move if you push down on it) you could use one of those metal adjustable ring clamps.

When I installed my short shifter I just put a really tight fitting rubber grommet on the shifter to hold the boot up.

no zipties.....when i had my motorcycle all the fairings were held on by an intricate network of zipties...........
