long story short, stupid kenwood isn't able to read cds, displays "mechanical error". so i bought a 99-00 Si CD player locally. i want to know the correct way to install a 4-CH amp to a STOCK OEM CD Player that doesn't have a remote wire or RCA wires from what i know i need to get some type of converter? will it have a remote wire with it to hook up to the amp?

btw - if the converter only has 2 ch, should getting 2 of them for my 4ch amp be any problems?

any help / suggestions would be helpful. THANKS IN ADVANCE

Its called a Line Output Converter. Basically taps into your rear speakers wires (both rear) and makes a RCA connection. I use one on my car
haha cheap, i like it. since mines is 4 ch.... if i use 2, should there be any technical problems?

well i went to fries electronics, they had one for $40.00 for a 4ch converter. i thought it was kinda pricey so i decided to the JL Audio one looks very very nice however its like $250+, definately not worth it... might as well buy an alpine or pioneer deck. btw i talked to some friends and one of them might have a 2ch converter for me so thats some good news

thanks for the help ya :thumbs up

stupid cd player... installed it last night, now i have to trouble shoot whats wrong. there's no sound and only the rear spearkers are hooked up. i decided to hook up the rear to the stock chassis wiring so i can hear some music til i purchase a converter and since my front is hooked up by components and an amp i decided jus to hook up only the rear.

but anyways the cd player seems to get pretty hot fast? and at one point... i set the cd player down, started messing around with the wires and turning the car on / off. and for 5 seconds i heard the music play, but once i lifter up the deck and started pushing a button, it stopped. ugg. i shoulda just bought another mp3 deck.

Are your rear speakers aftermarket? I might have an answer to your deck problem.

As far as a remote turn on source, use the slot in your fusebox where you see the red wire plugged into in this pic (the lone red wire):

Your amp will always be on when your car is on, even if the radio is turned off, but it'll work. The amp will be off when the car is off. It'd be a good idea to put a fuse inline too to be safe, with a 3A or 5A fuse.

I was thinking, maybe the rear speakers in that Civic are 6 or 8 ohm speakers. Aftermarket speakers are 4 ohm, and hooking them up to a deck that's expecting to run 6 or 8 ohm speakers will make it run hot, and may eventually fry it.

OR, maybe your battery voltage was too low for the deck to run right.
Maybe the ground is poor.

the stereo did get VERY and i mean VERY hot in the rear on the heat sinkers i think?.

i only ran it as far as 10mins max each test... volume half way but didn't really hear anything until that brief 5 seconds... do you think its still fried? the fronts were not hooked up btw
