no, the dc joints are interchangeable between 2nd gens and 3rd gens, but are too long for the 1st gens.
all the splines match up to the trans and the hub the same, but the shaft itself it longer on the newer gens.
you could try it, but I'm guessing you'll cause too much extra stress on the cv's and bust up the joint pretty quick after.. Then again it is only like 1/4" difference, so maybe it'll be fine. From a parts stand point, no. the part numbers are different, it won't work, but from a thinking standpoint "technically" it would work if it's just that the splines on the hub side are a bit longer or something.
