GSR or keep the LS?

Hey CL,
Just wondering about what i should do. I have a 96 ls and I am thinking about selling it to get a 94-95 gsr. My ls has tan interior and i wanted something with black interior. Also was looking for something OBD1 if I was going to buy one. I know I can do an interior swap and b18c swap. However, the money I would pay to do most of that I could just sell my car and buy a gsr with the things that i want. I was just looking for some advice as to whether or not I'm just being picky or not. If I could even just find the shell with black interior and obd1 I don't really mind not having the gsr motor in it right away because I plan on building it. Just let me know what you guys/girls think (please no flames for difference of opinion). Thanks to those who view and reply.

If your shells in good shape just swap the interior and engine. A good condition gsr will fetch at least 3k in most areas. I did my interior swap for about $250. I've seen complete engine swaps for 1500-2k. I've been through the same thing as you but imo unless you already have a gsr lined up finding a clean one is like finding a needle in a haystack.

Work on your car, thats why your here. You get a personal sense with your car when it takes you hours to change parts, run around and buy tools, bolts you forgot. That all part of working on your car, have to get started somewhere.

Start with a new interior. Cheap and easy. If you really need to have vtec, learn a little, save a little, then embrace any shred of mechanical engineering you have and get to work.

Yea good ideas keep them coming. The gsr i would buy could b beat a little just no major upgrades or rust bc I wanna make it my project car. My whole reasoning is to have an obd1 car, black interior, and that DC2 on the vin (i know a stupid reason) lol. I plan on building w/e car i get or keep for boost and having a jdm front put on. Just some more info I may have left out. I love this community btw, quick and good feedback.

None of this really matters. You could go about this many ways all of which you have to decide yourself. Too many variables in a purchase or trade scenario and the topic is rather broad because of that. You already laid out your basic options. Make a choice.

Why u want obd1? That an interesting want. Why not just chip ecu with s300 or something?

I plan to chip it the only thing is emissions in the state of pa. i know its doable but id rather not go through the hassle of finding illegal ways to pass inspections lol. Tuning an ob2 system is a bit more expensive and time consuming also.

Theres emision checks in pa..? I live in pa and ive never heard of such a thing. Then again the longest ive owned a car was 1.5 years..

You can only tune light modifications and stay smoggable. You said you plan on building it, we'll there's a point after which you won't pass anymore.

Will aftermarket cams, fuel rail and injectors mess with emisions? That doesnt count as building much right..? (Ontop of tuned i/h/e)

Now that i think about it, what about those diesel smog trains (trucks) that spew black emisions everywhere, id think they are certainly not passing...

We have sniffer tests in Washington, and my boosted d16 passed every time :)

I just built a tune that made next to no boost and smogged it

Cams can mess with emissions quite a bit especially if you can't get them to idle like oem

Pretty much in my case it would be just for plugging in to the obd2 connector for emissions. If they cant hook up to it I wont pass emissions. Unless I find a shady place that would do the 3 no com and pass it but that isn't an easy thing to do and i don't recommend anything illegal. :)
