its not a good idea to buy a gsr head for your ls unless you plan to do a vtec build or a ls vtec build in which case you might as well rehone the block and buy new pistons

Lol that's what he's asking if he should do.

OP: I'd get your block honed, and get new piston, rods, & rings before you put that head on there. Also, you'll need an oil feed kit and OBD 1 VTEC ecu for that head. And you'll have to wire your engine harness for VTEC as well.

And of course check the standard things like seal leaks, gaskets, timing belt, h2o pump, etc. to make sure they're in good order.

yea id thot so..a gsr ecu wouldnt work?? putting a gsr head doesnt make it lsv??

Yes, putting a GSR head on an LS block would make it LSvtec. That's rather self explanatory don't you think?

An OBD1 GSR ecu will work, you'll need the proper jumper harness though.
**Note:If you plan to keep the stock GSR intake mani and want the secondary butterflies to function, you will need the OBD1 GSR ecu, not a chipped p28, p06, p30, etc. because the p72 is the only ECU with the hardware in it to operate the secondary butterflies.

^Yep totally true; and I'd suggest doing that. Unless you have proper supporting mods and/or a tune, aftermarket intake manifolds on GSR's don't like to run well.

Not sure where you got that from

so it would be cheaper rebuilding it to lsv rather than buying a complete lsv correct?? rehoning would be in the hundreds so yea around 800 or so..

It may or may not be cheaper, that's relative. But I wouldn't buy and already-build LS/VTEC motor. You'd be buying someone else's problems in all likelihood.

It depends how much the shop you find charges for a rebuild, or if you can do it yourself. Sounds like you'll be going to a shop though.
I agree with Mac, buying an LSV motor is sometimes sketchy. You don't really know for sure what components it's built with, or how the previous owner treated it.
