Hey what's up guys I'm about to get a 89 teggy tomorrow!...I scored it for 500...its in pretty decent shape and the engine only has 112,000 miles on it...its an auto with NO power locks or power windows...the main thing wrong with it is that it needs the cv joint on the passenger side replace...found the part for 150 online and I'm having someone put it in for cheap...there are other things that it needs (paint, rust under around the rockers and wheel wells, a drivers side fender, new door speakers, a tune up and the headlights for somereason won't go back back down)...the guy I'm getting it from said its most likely a fuse...any ideas on that?...ill put up pics when I get around to it but I have big plans for this car!

Well I got the car yesterday everything went smooth...the tow was even free (thanks to my girlfriend who has AAA)...ill post pics soon...I need to make a photobucket account and use that right?...and for the headlights not going back down 87teggyrs said there's a lock?...like I turned the turned switch to turn the headlights on and off but couldn't see anything that would lock it?...idk I haven't really "played" with it too much but any help would be cool :)...oh and a quick question...the battery light is on on the dash...what does that mean?...the car starts right up with no probs if that gives anyone an idea

Any rust on the under carriage?

Battery Light issue is when the vehicle is running off the battery since the alternator can't charge the battery meaning you will need to replace the alternator and also the battery as well.

I would never buy an alternator from any junk yard. Just buy a remanufacture one. Not sure if a Civic one will work but you can always get the part numbers thru google and if they match then it will work.

Welll that's something else I need to add to my list...lol...and I just noticed earlier that its idling kinda high...around 1800...so I'm thinking it could be a vacuum leave possibly...good thing my girls mom knows a mechanic who used to work for honda :)...he's coming by Sunday to check out the front cv joint and tell me what I need to get so he can fix it...but I have a feeling that the its more than the cv joint :/...but on a good note I fixed the headlights!...they were locked...I was reading the manual and I found all the info...so atleast I can scratch that one off my list of repairs haha

if its not a vacuum leak, it is more then likely going o be your idle air control valve. or maybe just adjust your throttle screw and if that doesn't it, kick down the $250 +/- for the iacv, i got to on my 87 :(, i rev about 1500-1800 right now too.

U can get the entire axle (cv joint and all) for like $60 at advance auto. And if the car starts but the battery light is on it need an alternator. But whoever said it would need the battery and alt is wrong. If the car starts but the battery light stays on when running the battery itself is good but alt is not charging.. U can easily test the voltage output of the alt by using a multimeter. Just measure the Volts at the battery with the car running with ALL accessories on (heat, radio, wipers, etc)
If it reads below 13.0 volts then u will need to make sure the alternator is wired and plugged in. If it is then u will need a new one.
Congrats on becoming a teg owner :)
Next step is move up to obd1
