Getting maximum gas mileage

i know there are alot of these posts. but how would i get the maximum gas mileage out of my car. i drive alot and i can get 300 miles on one tank if i drane it all the way down. what would i have to do to get the most of my car?

Making sure your tire pressure is correct.
Checking your air filter to make sure it is clean.

That's good.. you're not doing anything wrong then.

Accelerate very slooooow. So people even tailgate you until u get up to speed. And coasting saves you gas and its free. Let off the gas once u see a light has turned yellow or early before a stop sign. I can get like 40mpg max sometimes in the summer if I drive like a granny.

Like everyone else said accelerate slowly, dont speed, shift early, tire pressure, no roof racks, ect..

Wax car...lol. I have read things that claim washing/waxing your car helps improve mileage. Now I cannot confirm nor deny this, but heres what I found

"The basic idea behind it is, after washing and waxing your car, the surface of the vehicle is much more likely to be nice and smooth, therefore, it should be more aerodynamic than when you have lots of bug guts smeared all over." One link claimed 7% increase by doing this..

Regular tune-ups, clean air filter, go the speed limit. What transmission does the car have in it?

I doubt a wash and wax would do even 1% increase....a wash 'n' wax does add up to 5hp though....

Read my Hypermiling How To. If youd like, you can send me a pm on your driving habits and I can point out what your doing right and what your doing wrong. If your 60%+ on the freeway, you should be getting high 20's lower 30's MPG.

I drove from San Francisco to LA Last week averaging 29 mpg first tank, 26 mpg second tank, then driving around later on 32 mpg... I was all highway but I was constantly doing 80mph.
