Gear Shift Release problem

My gear shift will periodically get stuck in Park, so I use the release option with my key. My mechanic says I need to replace a switch. Is this true? My brake lights all work.

I appreciate any information!

you know... unless it's driving you nuts, i don't think i would, cause if someone wanted to steal your car, they wouldn't be able to get it into gear, So think of it as a type of transmission boot :lol:
