Fuel Pump Or Relay Problem: Help?

Alright I have a 93 Acura Integra RS, and it only starts when it wants to. I've done a bit of research to see what the problem may be and I'm thinking it's either just the fuel pump, or it could possibly be the main relay causing the fuel pump to not work. The engine turns over every time, but it just seems like it's not getting fuel to spark the engine. I turned the key on, and went to check and see if the fuel pump was humming, and nothing. Does anyone have any suggestions on what it could be aside from the relay? I know the fuel pump wasn't working, so I'm sure it's something electrical or my pump is out.

Any help would be greatly appreciated !

I should have it figured out soon. I'll keep you posted on any information I find. I hope you don't have to replace your fuel pump. If I'm not mistaken, unlike the 93 model, you don't have that easy access point under the back seat to get to your fuel pump. You'll have to drop your tank.

Best of luck to you Toxic.

(1990 Acura Integra GS) Yeah I think I am having a similar issue to this. I was about to just go ahead and change my fuel pump but decided to look here first. Fuel pump only turns on sometimes when I turn the key and car will sometimes die when idling or decelerating. This started happening about a week ago and I was told it was my fuel pump going out but that is quite a large project if I'm not totally sure that it's the problem.

when you turn the key to the on position you should see the CEL come on for roughly 2 sec followed by an audible click and then hear the pump prime.

if you do not hear that click as the CEL shuts off then you have a main relay issue

if the pump doesn't prime then it could indicate a fuel pump issue or a short in your wiring.

another possibility is your ignition switch. The switch contacts can become corroded and create these issues as well. note that with the ignition switch issue you may also experience the car starting and then shutting off right away...

The CEL comes on for 2 seconds and clicks when it goes off, but it only comes on Sometimes. I don't hear the pump prime after the CEL goes off but I'm not sure if that's because it's too quiet or not.
I'm going to change the fuel filter because I'm sure it needs to be changed anyway then see where to go from there.

Replace the main relay. I had the same problem last year until another Integra owner gave me the direct solution. She starts up every time now. I have a '93 RS, relay nut is behind the change compartment, left of the steering column. I had to drop the lower dash cover for better access while replacing the part. I hope this helps you all unless someone's given you the solution already. Looking forward to warmer weather myself so I can pull the whole dash out to replace safety switch, lights, and radio. Maybe I'll find out where water is coming in at when it rains hard.

definitely change out that relay...

if after changing it you still don't hear the pump prime that would be next on the list... you may also want to check fuel pressure if it does start to prime anything lower than 35 psi and the pump may be going...

Mine did the same thing, I switched out the ECU (after replacing the relay and the fuel pump with no success) and the problem went away. It had gotten water damage from the sunroof drain leaking on the floor board.

I have a 1990 RS and am having a problem, was cruising along at about 40-45 mph and the engine just died. I have audible click under the dash after the key is turned but no hum from the back for the pump. Does this mean i need to change/repair the pump or the relay, and i could use some help locating the pump, is it in the tank, frame mounted, or tank exterior?

please help

I have been having similar issues..... Sometimes when I go to start my car, it will turn over and start for a second, then die. When I try to start it again, it will just keep turning and not start. My fuel pump usually primes, but not all the time- and maybe it cuts off too soon so there's not enough fuel...? To get it to start, I turn the key on til I hear the fuel pump - do that a couple times and USUALLY that will work.... What could this be??
Ignition switch...?
Fuel relay...?
Dizzy...?

Any suggestions would be much appreciated :)

your issue sounds like a failing fuel pump. Cannot hurt to change the main relay first tho.. they are overly abundant at salvage yards (i.e. pick n pull)

if the main relay doesn't make a difference and the pump is still iffy then look into changing it.

Also check your grounds.
