sorry for the noob question just had to know!!!

thats right.
Yes u can boost it urself AND not tune it and it can run, it depends mostly on the size of the turbo and how much psi ur running, his car PROBABLY runs like crap tho if he hasn't tuned it AT ALL in 2 years lol

He probably just stuck a rising rate fuel pressure regulator or FMU on it to increase fuel when the boost increases.

If it had absolutely nothing at all done to add extra fuel, the engine would have most likely popped the very first time he stepped on it.

Here is what i think . i would be pretty sure he has sometihgn on it because its not gonna run good with no tue and stock in jectors and with anyother injectors his car would probably not start at all.

yes you need a a tune, my car i tuned and still runs like crap haha, also have a blown head gasket, but i dont think that would caus me not able to rev above 5.5k, but ANYWAYS, tell him to scrap up 200 bucks and get it tuned.

Dont take this the wrong way but your friends a fucking moron, he could be pushing way more power it he had someone tune it (That actually knows). I haven't even installed my turbo yet and I knew from day 1 when I started piecing it together I was going with hon-data and taking it to our local bad-ass Honda/Acura shop. Slap your friend silly, now you know more than him! 8)

I <3 Boost
yeah it will run, i bought my car when it had no tune, stock ecu, injectors, etc and i daily drove it for awhile, but when you boost it will run like shit and cut out.

that can really mess up the motor if he didnt tune it

There really isnt a total necessity to tune this if it is indeed the 18G kit I stated. Its a great kit for "what it is." Small turbo, spools quick, slight boost in power for a fun getaroundtown car. Its nothing to brag about but adds a little pep to the car.

I'm pretty positive its what he's running as the car is a '96 GSR and the kit is specifically for '96-'99 GSRs. It comes with the blue box...which although unpopular, it allows you to run this kit right out of the box without a tune.

ok so im by no means a pro on hondas yet but here is what i do know. in order to achieve optimum performance your air to fuel mixture should be Approx. 14 parts air to 1 fuel. a turbo no matter how big or small is gonna force way more air in, thus you need to some how supply more fuel. if this is not done your motor will run hot and eventually melt down. not to mention never run to its true ability.
