My car has an intermittent bad Coolant temperature sensor. It is possible, as there are three sensors, one for the gauge, one for the computer and another for the fan(s). The computer uses its sensor to determine how much fuel to inject into the engine upon startup, so if there is too much or too little fuel, it won't fire right, or possibly not fire at all. My best friend's 95 Prelude Si had the same problem, except we had just performed a Timing belt and water pump replacement on it and couldn't get the engine back in time as it was misfiring due to it's faulty ECT sensor.
