Faceplates?

I got a new cluster with faces on them. I believe they are led because the backlights will not shine through and theres wire coming from them. I didnt' receive a relay or anything else but the lcuster. I tried powering one of hte wires with neg and pos from battery to see how it looked and it didn't go? whats wrong?

nope, wont work at all. its not LED its electroluminescent, needs a DC/AC converter to create a high voltage a/c signal to illuminate the phosphorus material of the faces.
