Exhaust tone

I have a type r header welded to a flex pipe then a universal cat then 2.5 inch piping all the way back to a magnaflow muffler with a 3.0-3.25 inch tip and my question is about the sound. I can post clips if it helps but when I first start driving the exhausts farts like a jdm ricer. After about ten mins of the car being on the sound goes away and sounds nice and quiet with a deep tone which I love. It screams in vtec too. I assume its due to the heating and stretching of the metal but I want to eliminate it all together. Thoughts?

Mine does it too, so like coy saif, you're fine.

Mine doesn't do it. But I don't exactly recommend my set up. You are spot on though, it is because of the heating and expanding of the metal. Most notably the resonator mesh.

However...you shouldn't be driving your car when it is cold anyways. If you let it warm up to operating temperature like you're suppose to you won't have that issue :p

Okay cool. Thank you for the replies guys.
And nick I was going to ask that as a follow up question. Is it completely necessary to let the car warm up fully? I mean I don't start it up and go but I sit for a good 30 seconds and then depart. In the winter I let it sit for at least 2 min and then go. Mind you I live in texas and now its averaging 90 degrees and in the winter like 30-40

I rarely let mine warm up but I only have a 3 minute drive to work lol.

What oil are you using? We do not have roller type rockers for our cams, and bearing lubrication is also crucial when it is cold, So I will say yes, it is recommended to let it warm up. Driving a car repeatedly before it is warmed up can result in premature bearing wear and ultimately bearing failure. Obviously there are going to be times where waiting 5-10 minutes for it to warm up just isn't going to happen, but do your best to let the car warm up as much as possible before driving it. Also, try to stay in the lower RPM if you do have to drive it before it is fully warmed up.

Duly noted. When I don't wait as long as I should before it warms up I shift at about 2.5-2.8k but its usually warm like 2 tenths of a miles down the road...new thermo ftw

I like Hondas
My dad was riding with me and told me I was lugging it shifting at 3000 so I don't know:/

this post was made in china using Taptalk2

It all depends on what tranny you have and also how your torque is down low. I generally shift at 3~4 as well on the streets with a gsr trans. Either way though, just let it warm up.

Will do. I just did on my 4 mile drive home :)
And you get that good of mileage by shiting at 3-4k? I need to practice self control lol. No more vtec

You might have to post a sound clip cus its could be subject to opinion. Mine sounds fine. Muffler is always the first point of interest for tone. The other parts of the system play a role after that.

Warm up is always a good idea. How much will vary depending on your environmental conditions. I warm up at least 30 seconds more often than I used to. For a long time I would start my car cold and get going.
