Egr valve probelms

Sooo yea my 1990 acura integra is having a few probelms, the rpms sometimes feels a little weird and when i let off of the accel pedal my car jerks back like it just got smacked or something, i pulled up the codes and one of them is 12, the EGR, can someone explain this thing and what it does for my car? i heard it was related to rpms and vacuum leaks and stuff like that, also i heard the car could be better off without it, idk. . . i was looking for replacements for this and they are running around 200+ dollars -__- can anyone recommend a cheaper but okay egr valve? This is happening to me a little bit too, it mostly happens in the lower gears though not so much in the higher gears.

does yours jerk when your slowing down in higher gears or lower gears? just curious

mostly the lower gear when i first start it up in the morning or after its been off for a while, in higher gears its not noticable at all but it does happen once in a while but not as much as in the lower gears

yeah exact same thing is happening to me

exhaust gas recirculation valve. it aids in cold start up or rich conditions. there are more parts to the egr system you have a vacuum soleniod that can also cause faulty egr codes to occur.

This probelm is just one big hassle... but imma start by getting a new egr valve, cant hurt right?

egr valve really should have any effect on performance or running concerns. its mostly inplace for emissions to help burn up excess fuel in the exhaust that wasnt burned.

so even though its jerking when i let go of the accelerator and all that dont worry about it? bottom line i just wanna know if this is hurting my engine or anything like that, plus the CEL is getting annoying as hell, i have to restart my car just to turn it off -__- but either way anything i wanna ask is whats your take on just getting a junkyard EGR valve? yes or no? if yes what should i look for and can it be from just any b-series engine or it has to be from another integra?

i havent looked at the egr valve directly yet but most of the time you would want to make sure the diaphram is in good shape and when vacuum is applied to it, it operates. your egr is not causing your car to jerk around when you let of the gas though. could you explain it alittle better than jerks around when i let off. does the steering wheel jerk does it feel like its in a high rpm. the light is going to be more annoying if you spend money on an egr valve and have all the same problems

When i let off of the acceleration my car jerks back as if its losing alot of power or something, the steering wheel is fine its just in the lower gears, at high rpms it runs just as the car should, it usually only does after its been sitting for a while ( i guess cold start? idk) but its extremely annoying, other codes i have are 6, and 43, 6 came when i overheated the car, (fixed that) but would code 43 have anything to do with this? 43 = Fuel system

yes that will have a huge thing to do with it. the egr valve recirculated fuel that is not burned back into the motor. thats why its only for emissions and cold start up aid cause thats when the vehicle runs the richest. i would figure out what that code means alittle more in depth and look at your fuel system not the egr

so code 12(EGR) may be coming up because of code 43 fuel system? this sounds like it might get expensive :'(

yeah when diaging a car with multiple codes you look at the larger of the two first. which one will impact the other. well fuel is a primary compared to egr. their code be a simple fix. not much on these is real expensive

Yea ive been looking around the forum and this looks like a real tough code to crack this 43. . . where should i start?
