Door Lock Problem

My drivers side door will not lock unless the door is shut. So I can't open the door and lock it and shut it behind me. If I press the lock button, or flip the lock manually with the door shut it will lock fine. If I open the door and try to lock it, the lock only moves a little bit and will not go further.

In order to lock it, I have to be INSIDE the car with the door shut, or lock it with my key.
Is this a normal feature so you can't lock your keys in... or is there a solution to this?

Oh cool, thanks. I wasn't sure if my lock mechanism was jammed up or what. Maybe I'll just get a remote lock lol.

My passanger door locks and unlocks normal, but I have to use my key or hold the handle to get the drivers door to lock. (When it is open.) If it's closed it works fine.

That's all Hondas. It's a feature to force you to lock the door with the key, ensuring you don't lock the keys in the car.

Mine was doing this because the striker where the door lock mechanism needed lubricating, some white lithium grease did the trick. It wasn't always completely unlocking so the door would just re-lock itself.
