DIY: another door insert thread!

yup. heres another way of doing it.

so you have your old door panels and you want to spruce em up a bit?

first, go to a fabric/upholstery store and pick out a style or design you like. i suggest getting a heavy material. theyre less prone to fraying on the edges.

the fabric i chose was some red tweed

i bought a yard and a half just in case i mess up.

so once you pull your panel off, rip off the old fabric. use a green scrubby pad to help clean off the surface and some old stuck on fabric.

then mask off the area thats going to need adhesive sprayed on.

heres what i used. 3M headliner and fabric spray adhesive

apply evenly and be sure to get the corners and inside the crevace!!

remove masking

lay the fabric on top. i suggest lining up the sewn edge of the fabric to the window gutter so it lines up perfectly.

take a fairly large flat head screw driver and press the fabric in. go around the whole thing 3-5 times to make sure it didnt move out of the crevace. work slowly and be sure to snugly tuck it in the corners!! thats the most problematic areas ive noticed when doing this project.

take a BRAND NEW blade and start cutting. the thicker the fabric, the more youll have to press in to cut. dont just drag it either. work it like a saw. feel the blade cutting thru the fabric.

look over the edges to see if any areas came up from out of the crevace and press back in with the screw driver.

cut an X where the door handle hole is

and then do it again!!

and a few more times if needed.

reinstall panel into car and youre done!!

happy modding!!

i was really torn between that and the black, white and red plaid. i just thought the white might get dirty easily
