Custom in car PC install, need suggestions

ok...i finally just started working on my carputer project, been so busy...give me some ideas ppl, mounting the screen is easy, just the bondo and sanding will take alot of time...


now too the hard part...where to put the pc?! look at these pics, where do u think i should mount the pc? cut a hole on the side to get access to the dvd slot? or face up award and use the compartment slider to access it? of course everything will be bondo and molded to get the clean oem look. throw me some ideas






my digi cam ran out of batteries, had to use the webcam, i'll get better pics tomorrow. the console is pretty much empty from my shifter to the dash. some wires but i can relocate. i'll give it a good 10 In wide

yea wit the slider, i have face the pc upward...get a new dvd slot without the tray. depends if i get the case...i might just fab something to whole all the components, i forgot to measure the console, i'll do it tomorrow.

seems like a lot of custom work... i woulda just used a laptop or something... lol. but yea what are you actualling putting in the console? the actual PC component? i wouldn't think its a good idea to have the pc facing up otherwise the cd in the cd drive is gonna be bouncing around unless the cd snaps in.

yea thats one of the problems thts holding me back, i'ma going put a complete pc in there lol..mini motherboard, fan, etc...i need to figure a way out to keep it steady while driving aswell... its gotta be a tough one, i put the cost together...its gonna be 800-900 for this project =(

lol enough wit that...back to my topic ppl...lol i'm stuck, i could cut a opening on the side, the driver side of course....and just mold it together with bondo or watever...but thats the only idea i can think of so far

yea i looked into it, heat wont be a problem, cuz the end of the console leads into my entire dash alot of open space for it to cool, might create some openings aswell just to be safe

i would think u shud try to find one of those disc changers that isnt a tray..u kno the ones where u slide the disc in and it accepts it...i dunno but i think those mite be more practical than a slide out tray...also make it come out sideways...i once read somewhere that vertical disc spinning is ok but over long periods of time the center of rotation gets a little uncalibrated...so personally i wud try to go with a horizontal load mechanism somehwere...i think if it cud go in the glove compartment that wud be cool...lol..or in the dash..

i dont have the case yet, its holding me back pretty far, i have an idea so far...i'ma angle my case at a 45 degree angle, and take out the cup holders, and keep the slider for the OEM look, and slide it up when i wanna put in a dvd or watever. hope it works, once i get the case in.
