Cooling Fan Not Working. (I've searched)

Ok, So after searching the forums for the bit I decided to start my own thread. My car has been over heating, the radiator was completely dry today when I checked the overheating started last night. I've replaced the Cooling Fan Relay, the Engine Coolant Tempature Sensor and the Sensor that goes to (What I BELIEVE is the water pump) the thing behind the left side of the motor that a coolant hose goes to. I'm not sure what it's called I believe it may be the fan switch not sure though. The fan still doesn't turn on. Soooo my questions are why wont it turn on? How can I check to see if the fan itself is bad? and lastly, Would the fan not coming on cause my radiator to run dry?

Would the fan not coming on cause your radiator to run dry, no, not unless you were overheating it so bad that you were boiling off the coolant, in which case your motor would be shot anyway. You should have two cooling fans, and neither of them are coming on? The sensor that you replaced where the hose is going into is not the water pump, it is the housing for the thermostat. It is possible, but unlikely that your fan motor may be dead, you need to check for 12v going to the fans when the fans "should" come on, and you can do this with a test light on the plug on the harness side. It is very possible that the relay that you replaced is also bad, as there is not much to the cooling system electrically.

I'm not sure about the sensor being bad already because I just took it out of its packaging from autozone. I've heard of people hardwiring their fan to there battery. How would I do this? Would 10 gauge speaker wire work for the sake of just testing.?

U can use speaker wires to run to the battery from the fan to see if it turns on . Most likely if your radiator is empty then you got a leak and fix that quick . While your at it change the fan switch and thermostat. Once you do all that you gotta bleed the air outta the lines to make your fans work properly

Oh and my car only has one cooling fan,? I'm assuming the other one you are referring to is for the AC in which case I don't have due tithe fact that the previous owner who did the lsvtec eliminated the AC/Power steering. -_-

Is the fan switch the round oil plug looking sensor that I replaced on the thermostat housing? If so I just replaced that today no luck.

oh you have an LSVTEC swap from a previous owner huh, you should have mentioned that in the original post, that makes things a whole lot more complicated, because now you need to get your test light and multimeter out and trace down the problem that problem exists in the wiring harness.

Yeah sorry, I've had it for 3 months and haven't had these problems. I'm hoping that the radiator went dry from the cooling fan and nothing else because I don't know how long it hasn't been working since I just fixed the engine temp gauge in the car today.

You can always hardwire it to a switch. My buddy has it in his integra, but he has a K20 swap in it. Must be a wiring problem then unless you got a bad fuse somewhere. Check fuses under hood just incase.

I checked the fuse too when I replaced the relay I'm hoping the fan itself isn't the problem but I guess I'll have to wait and see. I will test the fan itself tomorrow and get back to you guys on how it goes. I really appreciate all your help so far guys hopefully we can get this worked out soon.

Would the cooling fan really cause me to overheat randomly because I just drove y car 20 mins Its about 30 degrees out and it was doing perfectly fine I would watch it go to about 3/4 then drop back down to normal operating temp but all of a sudden it started getting hot again so I pull over and now I'm here typing this. I also made another discovery yesterday the little tube that's supposed to be on the overflow tank cap was non existent so thats why I never knew she was out of engine coolant I wanted to know if this is another cause of overheating because I realize the radiator is gonna get warm therefor over flow but after it starts to cool down it should create that vacuum and bring some fluid back with it so just on a hypothesis I'm saying it gets hot then never gets the fluid back that it pushesoit therefor since it has less water in the radiator it would have helped the radiator to keep getting hot again even after its cooled down? Just an idea

first off check your oil to see if its mixing .

Second if its getting hot off and on you need to bleed the air out your coolant lines by running it till it gets warm and opening that nozzle that looks like a nipple on the passage side with 12mm just don't break it

Btw did you change your thermostat? If not start there before you bleed the air out .

Your stuck with quite a pickle as your dealing with someone elses mistakes. The steaming off of your coolant is explained by just having it venting to air and not into an overflow, and the symptom you described is indicative of a sticky thermostat. I would replace it with an OEM thermostat from the honda dealer, I have found after someones intuitive research on honda tech that the reason the OEM tstats perform better is that they are of a COMPLETELY different design that actually opens larger then any of the aftermarkets available, even the 170s and 180s that you see available over the shelf at autozone.

Regardless of that fact when your cars temp gauge gets to about middle, your fans should be on, and you need to start checking with a test light or a multimeter where you have power and where you dont so that you can trace down the source of the problem. Its very possible he did something stupid with the harness that is causing this problem. Your fan relay that is in your main fuse block could also be bad despite the fact that you just replaced it, try tapping it real hard when the fans should be on.

So I just got frustrated after spending 100 dollars replacing sensors and decided to go ahead and wire it to the ignition coil fuse. I put stop leak in the radiator because I can't find any visible leak and it doesn't have the symptoms of a bad head gasket although the radiator went dry for a second time. I checked for milky oil and there is no white smoke or sweet burning smell the coolant would have put off. I also put a hose o. The overflow cap so it could siphon any needed coolant back. The engine temp so far has been steady and looking good. I just really wish I knew why the radiator was going dry in the first place?!?!

Get a new radiator and u should check under you'd car for any wet spots antifreeze doesn't dry so if its leaking then u should find it. Worst to happen is that its burning through the exhaust somehow
