The crankshaft position sensor is designed to record the rate at which the crankshaft is spinning. This sensor consists of a toothed metal disk mounted on the crankshaft and a stationary detector that covers a magnetic coil that the current passes through. As the metal teeth move past the coil, its magnetic field is disturbed. This causes a stream of pulses in the current. The computer can calculate the crankshaft's speed from the frequency of the pulses.

It mounts onto your oil pump right at the crank kind of in between the crank pulley and pump

stupid question - could a crankshaft position sensor malfunction cause the car not to turn on?
My crankshaft was replaced a few weeks ago and now I'm getting this error code as well.

92 Integra shouldnt have a Crankshaft Sensor on the oil pump....those were only on obd2 cars. On 92 Integras its inside of the distributor

Makes the car very hard to start and if it does it typically has problems revving past 3500 RPMs

True true, I need to pay more attention. Damn us 3G people forgetting about the 2G differences. You will most likely need to get a whole new distributor I believe to get rid of the issue.

My wifes 95 GsR had the same CEL code and was finally fixed by replacing the whole distributor.
