Clueless driver...

From North NJ (Belleville) in need of help. I'm new to cars and have no idea what I'm looking at. I've been reading this forum for some time now but I don't understand what anything is or what they do (ex. Drivetrain, intake, induction, etc.) I'm mostly looking for someone to help me out and show me how to do this stuff hands on. I hope you guys can help me out, I'm just trying to restore this car (96 ls) to run like new.

To start, go ahead and post pics of the car. Interior, exterior, and engine bay. Most of the stuff can be done by hand and is pretty simple. For example, an intake. Its just a pipe that has a filter on the end of it. Installation is simple and can be done in about 5 minutes (once all the original stuff is removed).

Also, to start out, most people do I/h/e (intake, header, exhaust). An AEM short ram intake is a popular mod that costs around $120. A header will be more costly, around $400 for a decent one. As for the exhaust, there are tons of catbacks out there. If you have money, the Apexi ws2 is a good quiet one. Or if you like loud, the Apexi n1 is good. But searching is helpful as well :)

But first, I'll worry about maintenance (tune-up, etc.)

If you don't understand what the drivetrain does, and so on, those are general things that should be learned before working on your car. For starters I would recommend getting a factory service manual from hondahookup.com, and maybe a chiltons. You could also browse our How-To/DIY section, has lots of great info including pics. Or have that dyke come and help you, hahah. Good luck man, and lets see some pics!
