Climate control (hot/cold adjustment)

I've looked around for someone with the same problem but I haven't really been able to find the problem. Maybe I haven't looked close enough but I thought it'd be a little easier to ask. So when I bought my car, the cold/hot adjustment never worked. The AC function and everything works fine. When I took it to a mechanic to get it recharged he said something about the hot/cold function doesnt work because of the harness or something but I'm not too sure. he said that I would have to bring it back to him so he could switch it to heat for me, and we would have to do this each time I wanted to switch.... I really want to avoid having to do this, so what's wrong with it? when I move the temperature control side to side it seems stuck at some points, like it doesn't want to go to the other side. So would I just have to replace the lever? or is it really a harness problem? I just want to know if I can fix it myself because I really want to avoid taking it to a shop just to change temperature and recently it started raining. Thanks ! :???:

What kind of car do you have? 90-93 or 94-01?

The temperature control is cable driven, not electrical like newer cars. What it does is open and close a valve that allows or impedes coolant flow through the heater core.

The cable is attached to the lever, and runs down under the passenger dashboard. It mounts onto the heater box, and some linkage connects it to another cable. The other cable runs into the engine bay and opens/closes the valve.

Either the unit was re-installed and the cable not routed correctly, or it is positioned incorrectly on the heater box (or not hooked up).

Same thing happened to the climate control in my truck. I took the unit out and saw that the lever wasn't connected to the metal clip.

I'd try taking your unit out and checking things behind it.
