Chunky Clutch Pedal Issue

My clutch pedal feels chunky, when it used to have a smooth linear motion. Any help is much appreciated.

Upon further research, I think I need to adjust the clutch cable. Where exactly is the clutch cable located? Do I need to get the car up on jack stands to access it?

Pop the hood, about 6 inches above the trans there is a dial on the clutch cable you turn to adjust its tension. The cable is located in the engine bay, running from the trans to the firewall.

Alright, so I played around with the cable adjuster and the chunkiness is still there. Am I supposed to have the cable tight or should there be some free play on the release arm?

Also, it is more difficult than usual to change gears while driving. It's most noticeable when trying to get into second. The shifter doesn't slide into gear like it normally would and there is this weird noise. It's similar to the noise you get when driving in reverse, sort of a whining sound. But when the car is not moving, the shifter will slide into any gear with ease.

I appreciate the help so far. Just trying to get things figured out.

Sounds like you have a larger issue. Could be the throw out bearing going bad, or there could be a problem internal to the trans. Sounds like there is a problem with the gear selection. Check your shift linkage to see if it got bent up somehow.

Keep It Clean
shifting issues...try flushing the fluid and add new good fluid. get a new clutch cable first, it might also be the arm that the cable it attaches to, it can seize within the trans

Yeah, it feels like my clutch doesn't fully disengage when my I press down the pedal and I am forcing the shifter into a gear. But I only have these problems while moving. If the car is at a stand still, the clutch feels fine and I can select any gear with ease. Honestly, I just need this car to last 2 more months, then I am off the college, and the car gets sold. I would like to fix these issues before I sell so that I can get the price I want for the car... Damn.
