check light came on

so i was just driving around today and i stop at a red light. i put my shifter into neutral and all of a sudden my car starts to shake and i see my rpm needle going up and down. i thought my foot was on the pedal, but it wasn't. the rpm needle kept jumping and finally stopped. then the check light came on in the upper left hand corner. now when i drive, my rpm needle jumps once in a while then idles..any idea what's going on?

have the code read. from there when we know what the code reads well know how to help you.if i had to guess i would say bad o2 or cat... but it could be as simple as a vacum leak

is the light on steady or is it flashing?

had the same problem, its a bad O2 sensor and i didnt have a cat until the other day which helped too. but yeah check your o2 sensors like redteg said.

Yea could be o2 sensor but I have a bad one right now but my car runs and idles fine. And you should probably change your oil too
