check engine light.

so recently when i drive for bout 20 min or so i'll start smelling like burnt oil it seems. i thought it was just oil on my engine burning from dripping when i filled the oil up other day.that wasnt it. then i was thinkin maybe my engines burning oil. that wasnt it. so today i was just washing car cleaning it out checking hoses and what not just normal check up shit. and dont know how i didnt notice it before but my radiator reservoir tank was empty. so i fill it and boom dont smell the burnt engine smell... but after cleaning the car and doing all small maintnance i go fill the gas tank pull out of parking lot an my check engine light turns on... i was thinking it was my fuel pump and or filter cause in the last month there has been 2 times when my car would start then just die. so i'd press gas to floor and itll start up and not die. it did it yesterday too. but car was fine all day and engine light turns on now?? so im taking it in on monday to see what code it throws out but im just curious what you guys think?

you don't need to bring it somewhere to get a code reading. The ECU has an LED that will relay the code. Run a google search on how to read the LED. The ECU is under the the carpet in the passenger side footwell on the diagonal surface. Pull the carpet back and you will see a circular glass window. When the ignition is on, the light will flash in a sequence.

ya when i did that i pulled the gold plate out and all i see is the Gold box with hella wires connected to it. cant find the little ECU to put paper clip in to get the codes.

That method works for OBDO cars.
For OBD1 you jump a connector that hangs by the blower motor, turn the car to the "On" position, and count the blinks.
