check engine light?

Hey guys so my car is a rebuild from a wrecked Integra and had pretty much everything replaced. My step dad knew the guy who rebuilt it (the same who wrecked it) and he said "it doesn't have the right ECU, that's why the check engine light is on". To me this doesn't make sense because the car runs perfectly and never had any engine trouble for the whole 5 years we've had it (my sister and I). It's not like we haven't tried to red line it either because I've definitely done that. The reason why I'm concerned about it now is because I'm trying to sell the car and having a check engine light doesn't make sense and it still runs perfectly. We've had it checked by my step-dad's mechanic too and he said there's is nothing wrong, but they don't fix anything until it breaks to the point to where you cant drive the car at all.

try checking your 02 sensor that could be the problem, because some time when the 02 sensor isn't working right the ecu cant read it then it show up a check engine light. Mind did that a few time befor due to bad and loose wires.

if it's been checked out by a mechanic, I'm sure the 02 sensor is fine.

my guess is the guy has a ECU for an Automatic running the Manual car. The problem with that is the Auto trans. shifts from the ecu. it comunicates with the different sensors (mainly the torque converter). With the car being a manual, you don't have a torque converter. The computer doesn't see a signal from the converter, thus freaking out because something is obviously wrong if it's not there.

The car will still run the engine fine with no problems, but it's just telling you "HEY! Your auto trans isn't here!" lol

That's just a guess tho. I say you should pull the code and see what code it's saying.

well.... technically it does. lol

search around and find the way to check the codes on your ECU. once you find that, come back with the code it's telling you, and we can really find out what's wrong with your car that way.
