check engine light, bad idle

have not got the codes yet. all the snow and all. but when the cel comes on the car starts to have idle hunt from about 800 to 300 rpms when the car is at standstill. wondering what part i need to order or what work needs to be done to fix the hunt problem.

nothing from nowhere
man, it could be anything, check for a vac leak or dirty throttle plate or bad tps and so on........

Some reasons for a erratic idle according to the Haynes manual (in order of likeliness):
-Vacuum leak
-Leaking EGR valve
-Clogger air filter
-Faulty fuel pump
-Leaking head gasket
-Worn down timing belt
-Worn down camshaft lobes

^^^^ most likely cause. im having the same problem and its my oxygen sensors. how your gas mileage?

believe it or not, a new fuel filter is an idle seeking god send. but if its something else it isnt going to help much.
