I just bought on o2 sensor simulator because I thought it would make the CEL go away and it didn’t so now im stuck with this stupid piece of crap that doesn’t work. can a test pipe make you lose power or damage your car if the CEL is on?

CEL=Check Engine Light

Have you had the computers code diagnosed? It'll tell you in which system the problem lies.
A test pipe won't make you lose power or damage your car at all, it only damages the atmosphere. But if your car has a bad o2 sensor, it'll run rich and that will make you lose a little power. An easy fix would be to just put an o2 bung in your test pipe and put the normal o2 sensor back in. It'll only cost like 20 bucks or so at a weld shop/exhaust shop to have that done, you know, if you take the test pipe off the car first and can then just hand it to them. You MAY have a problem getting a shop to do it for you, since test pipes are illegal, but It'll fix your problem if it is in fact the problem that's causing the CEL.

A CEL is a Check Engine Light. and a simulator is a thing that you replace your O2 sensor with to make the computer thing that the sensor is still there.

Hondafanmike- are you sure that the O2 sensor is your problem? What year is your car? I think that Autozone does free CEL checks. Get the code number and then post it here, maybe we can help.

What is an o2 bung? is that the hole you plug the o2 sensor in?

It a metal ring (about 1.5 inches in diameter) that is threaded in the middle so an O2 sensor can screw into it. It costs like 4 bucks. The shop would drill a hole in the test pipe, weld the bung into the hole, and voila!...a place to put your O2 sensor into your test pipe.

The little hole near the end of this header, that's an O2 bung.

ok I think I might have figured out my own problem. Are you supposed to keep the heater wire connected or simulate it, maybe this is causing the high voltage. If I disconnect the heater wire from the simulator will this fix my problem.
