Catback install - flange nut wont budge

Guys,

For those of you who have installed your own catback system, how the hell did you guys take off that dreaded top nut off the rear cat flange (3 bolts) without having to drop the cat itself? Is this even possible, or do I need to take the 2 spring loaded header bolts off the forward cat flange to drop the entire exhaust system first?

Also what size nuts should these be? I thought they were 14mm, correct? I had to use a 13mm which didn't seem right since I've never remembered using a 13 on any of my Hondas, ever.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

I had to take the whole cat off and have it cut from the the rest of the piping. Just take the cat off from the header. Its much easier.

Taking it over to my buddy's place later since he has air tools. Thanks for the reply.

You had to cut the cat off because the nuts were seized I'm assuming?

The three nuts were rusted to the cat, so I had to take the cat and mid pipe to midas and have them cut it for me.

Air tools FTW!

However, when I changed my cat, I bought some pb blaster and let it sit. I actually just used regular tools, I think maybe a breaker bar, but I cant remeber. I didnt take anything out, cept the cat itself.

Maybe cause CA and no rain...

This car was purchased in New Jersey so it saw snow for a short period of time in it's early years. The salt did it's damage and now I'm finding out that some of the nuts and bolts are practically welded on now. It's a bitch but hopefully my buddy's air tools will help so I can slap on this RS-R catback I just bought.

I just figured I'd ask everyone if they've had the same issue I'm having.

I had to grind the nut off -.- i lossened the header and bracket bolt so i could lower and angle it for room, then grinded. Drilled new holes, and put my own grade 8 bolts n nuts in. Had to change the ring gasket. Pita

DC - I really hope I don't have to do that. I'd much rather get a new cat or a test pipe if that's the case. :/

Will a gun fit on top of the pipe? Is there enough space for it? I think thats why I used regular tools.

Unless you take to header off too, like they say, then you got plenty of space lol

I dont think a gun would fit unless you have a 'swivel' joint, and idk if that goes well with impact guns. Theres like .75 inch between the stud and pipe. The body of the gun would get it in the way no?

And you prolly dont. I just didnt wanna deal with the BS for just a ring, plus i barely had 9 inches of space, i was really annoyed by the limited room.
