Car riding rough

Well the clutch was only half of the problem. My car now idles somewhat rough and if I hit the gas hard it struggles for half a second then kicks up higher into the Rpm. It also struggles when driving. If I ease on to the gas it gets up to speed just fine but if I hit it hard it struggles and shakes slightly until I let off the gas. I believe it is a fuel system problem but I am not sure. I bought some sea foam to run through the fuel system in case I have a clogged injector or something. Someone suggested to me to pull the vacuum line off of the brake booster, have someone rev the car to 3000 RPM and pour the seafoam into the line. He says it will smoke like crazy but it will clean every bit of carbon out of the injectors. This sounds kind of sketchy to me what do you guys think?

I have poured half the sea foam into the tank and I'm letting it idle. I can hear it make this "putt putt putt" noise when the idle drops (like it's struggling) every 5-6 seconds then it goes back to normal. I'll post a video of the sound in a minute

My old car did this because of clogged injectors as well. However, lets get to the basics first before jumping to conclusions. When is the last time you did a full tune up(Wires, plugs, cap, rotor). And secondly, before you try any of that sea foam stuff, I suggest going to an autoparts store and picking up a fuel system cleaner that is called "G2P" Guaranteed to Pass. I swear by that stuff. It got my 89 accord running flawlessly and to pass smog(with flying colors) too after it failed 2 previous times(very poorly I might add).


Edit: Nvm you already went ahead and used the foam stuff.

I only used the sea foam in the gas tank so far. And I did a full tune up about 4 months ago. I'm going to get new plugs and a fuel filter tomorrow and try that. And isn't g2p the same stuff as sea foam?

I have no idea if it is the same stuff. I never used seafoam personally, or even seen it in person. I have only heard mixed reviews about it on the internet. Hopefully it works for you bro.

My 00 ls is doing the same thing. It's almost like its misfiring. I've done a tune up a few times and that will fix it for about a week every time I pull a plug the tip is white and the threads have oil on them. Mine bogs down if I'm under 2k as soon as I get above its fine

Yeah, build up on the plugs like that is from burning oil(trust me I am an expert on burning oil just check my build thread lol). How is your valve cover gasket, is it leaking oil on to the plugs? Could also be valve seal or valve guide. There is also the chance that it is your piston rings. Have either of you done compression tests by the way?

Well first off you need a compression tester. Then you get the car up to operating temperature, turn it off, take out the spark plugs, unplug the fuel injectors(more accurate this way), and thread the tester into the spark plug hole of cylinder #1. With the tester in place, go inside the car and press the throttle all the way and crank the motor for about 5 seconds. Then go out and read the tester, write down the number, reset the tester and then repeat the process for cylinders 2-4.

It is fairly cheap. I forgot exactly how much mine was. I know you can rent compression testers from autoparts stores for like 5-10 dollars.

I had that problem 3 times in a row due to cracking the new cap every time I installed it. Same exact response... Under 3k rpm was misfiring.... Above that , and the car fired perfectly.... I'm going to suggest this is a loss of spark somewhere... Because my understanding electricity.... Like I said... Just a suggestion... Oh and thanks to your post I now know how to perform a compression test.... Lol... Thanks guys!!!

And I know my cap isn't cracked...it worked fine till a couple weeks ago. I'll check it anyway just to be sure.

Would a compression tester like this work alright?
