Hello guys, Nice forum you guys have going.
Here is a bit of background information on my problem and the car.
Car:
1990 Acura Integra ( Automatic )
Initial Problem:
The car overheated because of a cracked radiator. I replaced the radiator, hoses and thermostat. When i tried cranking up the car it turned over and then died almost immediately. After about 5 minutes of checking all the harnesses and plugs It turned back on.
I let it sit for a while and bled the air out of the coolant system to check if it would still overheat. The fan kicked in fine and the car did not overheat.
At this point i decided to take it for a drive to see how it would do in stop and go traffic. The minute i put the car in Reverse it shut off. I turned it back on and it seems like the RPMs were a bit erratic. This time when i placed it in reverse it stayed on. Now when i placed the car in drive it shut off again. I turned it back on and placed it in drive again and it was fine...
I drove the car for about 3/4 of a mile through a residential area with a few stop signs and such and it seemed to be doing fine; Then suddenly the RPM gauge was all over the place jumping from 0 to 6K for a few seconds until the car shut off again. This time for good. We tried cranking it up for the next 30 minutes with no luck.
I have absolutely no experience with these cars in particular as I mostly work with GM F-Bodies. But the symptoms seem to point to ignition problems.
Now before i go around swapping the distributor I would really appreciate if you guys could clear up the following questions for me.
Does this car have an external coil and ignition control module or is it all built into the distributor? and also do you guys have any idea what could be causing the problem before I go crazy and set the car on fire!
Thanks :|
