Can't remove key - does not think that the car is in Park

I just bought a 1993 Integra LS from a private owner. The car seems to be in good shape, however, I am having an issue with not being able to get the key out after putting the car into Park. The Park light does not come on the dash indicator; instead, S3 is lit. In case it's not already clear, it's an automatic. It seems to be shifting fine and everything, but it just won't allow me to turn the key to the off position. If I work on trying to get it out for a little bit (by turning the key and fiddling with the shifter). I have an appointment to take it into a local shop on Friday, but I was just wondering if anyone had any ideas what the issue was that's causing this problem. Thanks for your assistsance.

BTW, I'm a noob here so please forgive me if I missed the answer to this in the forums. I used search, but did not find it.

Thanks again.

Really common problem with the autos. It was the shift solenoid in mine flooding or some shit. Get a spare key and stick in the shift release space beside the shifter, push it down, and turn and release the key in the ignition at the same time.

I think Kirs, Prozon, has a fix for the issue. I can't remember if it was him or not, but I do remember this being fairly common for the G2

Your Transaxle Gear Position switch is gone, had to replace mine cause i wouldn't go into any gear but drive, tried to use my intellect to instead clean it and rail it,but that made it worst, now it wouldn't go into D or S (3 or 4),i picked one from the junk yard for free (the lady didn't charge me for anything),but this one seems to have the same prob sometimes,

my suggestion would be to buy a new one, theyre like around $60-$70 ($50 sometimes),and its a real easy job
