i want to get some aftermarket cams for my b20b.

should i be putting anything else in first before i do that?
i am about to buy the b20b and a stage 3 clutch in about 2 weeks
so.....
since the motor is not yet in the car what else can i put on it before i throw it in

upgrades that are around $300-500 that would be good to put in?
i want to turbo later so maybe injectors pistons bore idk......

im new at this so try not to be a smart ass hahaha

Just wondering, what else do you have done to your b20 (internal wise). Stage 3 clutch is like useless if your internally stock imo.

A Stage 3 clutch is a hassle to daily drive, and even overkill for racing if your engine is below 250 whp. Go with a stage 2 at the most.

for 300-500, you arent going to get much. What cams do you plan on getting? Depending on how aggressive they are, you will need some aftermarket springs and retainers. You should also get adjustable cam gears, and take it in to be tuned to get the most power out of the cams.

Cams : 300
Springs and retainers: 300
Cam gears...: 100-200
Tune: ?? maybe 200, I really dont know.

Its not as easy as just throwing cams in, at least not if you want to do it right, and get the most power out of them as you can.

I beg to differ on it being a hassle to drive. Once you get a feel for the clutch you'll drive it no problem. I drove 300 miles on my stage 3 6puck, about 150 were city miles. I absolutely LOVE it. A few friends thought it was stock because I can drive it like it's stock. Plus having a clutch that most people hate, you'll never have to worry about friends wanting to drive your car :)

As for clutch, check out gripforce.com

Your limited to Crower and Brian Crower cams and valvetrain. You might be able to get JG301 cams, If JG even makes cams anymore.

really...CLICK HERE

First link, crower.com. Im not going to tell you what to get. You need to do some research and determine what you want. Im not building this motor for you.

Depending on how aggressive your cams are that you get, I really wouldnt wait to get a tune. You are increasing the lift and duration of the cams, and the ECU may not be able to compensate for the larger amounts of air coming in. If that happens, you run lean. Bad things happen when you run lean.

You need non-vtec cams for non-vtec motors. The profiles are completely different and not interchangeable.

Cam gears are for tuning purposes. The tuner can dial in the right degree of the cams, to make the most power/create the power band you are looking for.

Turbo cams are designed for turbo applications. I dont know the specifics, but there is less overlap on the turbo cams to limit boost leak, or something along those lines. You want N/A cams for a N/A build, turbo cams for a turbo build. I suggest you determine what you want before buying anything.

i guess I'll chime in on this thread since I'm doing the same thing right now. I'm buying BC Stage 2 Turbo cams, the spring and retainer kit from BC, and stainless steel intake and exhaust valves (also BC). It all comes out to be about $950 if you plan on doing all the labor yourself.

I have been sitting on this cash for quite some time now because I don't know if I should buy a b20 head and build that, or build my stock head. mirrorimg seems to lean towards the p8r head idea and I would listen to whatever he says. I've been on this forum for just under a year now and every problem or question I've had, he had an input on the solution.
