I seen a buddy club v tec controller on flea bay for $60 or so,are they good or is there better, what do you actually gain by changing the v tech,I noticed my gsr's v tec at 6000 rpm.

V-TEC controllers control when V-TEC engages...so like on a stock GS-R i think its 4400 rpm or something close to that, but with the controller you can change that engagement point.

Without mods, nothing. You'll probably lose power messing with VTEC on a stock car.

VTEC activates at 4400 RPM's in your GSR, what you hear around 6000 RPM's is the intake manifolds' butterflies opening up (to let more air in). You can't hear VTEC activate on a stock engine, and it's not suppose to be heard on a stock engine.

they are pointless
Agreed. At the point in time when you have the requisite modifications to necessitate a VTEC controller, you might as well be running something like Hondata which can do the same.

B18C1s have a sort of "2 step" VTEC. First step is the crossover to the big cam at 4400rpm. Second step is the secondary butterflies of the dual-stage intake manifold at about 5800rpm.

Barry is right, when designing b-series VTEC engines, Honda tried to make the crossover as smooth and undetectable as possible. Again, what you hear is the butterflies opening up in the intake manifold. It wasn't up until the K series that Honda realized that us as Hondaphiles praise VTEC and wanted to feel it too, so the newer RSX-S and Si VTEC hits hard.

And its VTEC not Vtech they make phones.

If VTEC hit at 6000rpm on a stock engine it would be useless you'd barely have any time in the big cam before you had to shift and then fall flat.

But my bad for mentioning VTECH it just makes me laugh when people spell it like that.

Although Virginia Polytechnic is where I want to go to school.

I thought that they actually dropped the "Poly" and officially made it "Virginia Tech" a few years ago.

But yes, if Vtec hit a 6k it would be a bit redundant to have.

i differ, jdm p72 (GSR) hit vtec around 4500rpm. for all motor appl. this is a little low....All Motor setups are high compression...thus Vtec should be moved a tad higher....(round 4800 to 5500rpm)...or around the same time the secondary flys open to realy feel the pull..........plus cruising in 5gear your limited to 80mph or else ud be in vtec, thus dumping/wasting fuel.....

the buddy club vtec controller can raise the vtec point to not have that problem on highway driving.

now for boost.....turbos spool up pretty early, so to lower your vtec around 35, 4500rpm would only accomidate the spooling action.

i ordered the B.club controller from JHP for like 35bucks on sale like a week ago,......since i drive on the parkway to work i like the idea of cruising at like 80mph....(sometimes the flow of traffic) without popping vtec.

so the Buddy club V-con vtec controller is not useless......i wouldnt pay over 50bucks for the thing but for the time being...$35doller holler,,,,,why not.?

my 2 cents.

^totally understood.

I also hate being limited to 80mph. But then again I like mashing the throttle and immediately being in VTEC and pulling in 5th gear.

But you're right..I need a snail lol.

So do you have a B16 tranny because i never had a problem going 80 with my GSR tranny.
also all motor set ups and turbo set ups should be tuned properly so there would be no need for a controler. And im not meaning to be an ass hat but if you every set and watched a tuning session on a dyno you can see how much the placement of the corssover can destory a mid-range power band if not in the correct place for the car so some all motor cars will have it crossover lower and turbo cars crossover higher its all about having the correct tuning equipment and someone who actually know what there doing......

<<<turbo car 6k cross over :what:

:thumbs up
