boosting stock engine question

alright got a question about turbo and its probably been covered 1,000,000+ times but i was hoping to get specifics on my car...i've got a 94 integra with a stock b18b1 engine with 128k on it, i plan on aquiring a turbo kit (not the shitty greddy bolt on). its got a turbonetics 57 trim journal bearing turbo, basic manifold intercooler and all that, dsm injectors, and its running on a p28 chipped on chrome. now my question is i wanna run no more than 10psi on it, I plan to build the block later on but right now i dont have the money for block work and forged pistons, so i was wondering with a good tune how safe am i running it on stock internals for awhile. cause i dont wanna get the turbo bolt it up tune it and then 3 months down the line end up blowing a rod. cause its my dd and i definately can't afford a blown engine.

Do a compression and leakdown test first to see if your engine is healthy for boost. If it tests out ok...then i would say with a good tune and proper parts you will be plenty safe at a lower hp number for quite some time. Personally, I would do a nice tune up on the car before boost as well. (Colder plugs, wires, cap, rotor, fuel filter)

well the b18b1 does have forged pistons already i would say go to around 6-8 psi to be on the safe side considering the condition of your engine, a great tune and not beating on it every single time you drive then you should be fine

i agree with gsr do the test to see if it's even healthy enough for boost

Do a leakdown and compression test and see what you come up with. If your not sure how to do the tests or don't have the tools, have a friend help you out..or take it to your local shop. :)

Just get an oem head gasket...I myself tried a cometic gasket and had horrible luck with it. Also...now is the time to get ARP head studs. Your head won't lift with the headstuds installed and DO NOT skimp out on this. It's worth the extra 100 bucks. Check the head to make sure it's straight before your put everything back together. :)

just so you know man. the b18b1 DOES NOT come with forged anything. its all cast parts. you can tell when you take the head off the block and see the mold seam on the piston.

actually hollowfox is right i have numerous pages of literature on the b series engine and yes it does have forged pistons, rods, and crank. The b series is capable of 14 lbs on the stock engine and i've seen people run more with ebay kits. Of course you're going to want to keep it on a more conservative side though since it's a dd lol the only downfall to the b series is the sleeves (which can be fixed with a blockgaurd) and the oil galley plugs on the crank which can also be replaced with allen head screws. The motor is pretty much bullet proof but does have it's limits lol
