Big paint chips on front and rear bumper

I'm gonna be ordering from Paintscratch.com but I was wondering if I need primer. The chip is at the point where you can see black plastic or something. I'm not sure if its plastic, but its black. Do I need to primer that?

Def need to kinda sand down those areas and get it even, I don't think it'd hurt to primer?

Is it possible for me to do it myself with the touch up paint? Or should I get it done professionally?

They aren't huge areas, so you could attempt yourself, and since it's so small, if it doesn't look good when you're done you're no worse than when you started so you could take it then.

lol i was thinking more along the lines of rock chips. that looks like it was hit by meteorites. was that bumper repainted at some point? it looks like it wasn't prepped properly and now the paint's peeling off. you'll definitely need to scuff up the surface to give the primer and paint something to adhere to. if it were me, i'd just respray the entire bumper with material that have flexing agents, since bumpers are prone to flexing anyway. touch-up won't look as nice, imo. it's for small areas.

Yeah, I don't know how the chips happened. I bought the car a few months ago and it already had it. Guess I should get it done by someone who knows how?

that's your call really. if you're comfortable doing it yourself and have time on your hands, you could easily read up and do it yourself. otherwise you can just pay to have a shop respray it for you. sanding really sucks. if you have someone do it for you, you can always ask them when they're mixing the paint to give you a small bottle of the paint so that you can touch-up other areas of the car or future rock chips yourself. they'll usually give you some of the extra paint if you ask. it'd also be a good idea to get a front lip now and have them paint everything at once if you were planning to get one anyway.

Like I said, if you think you're even decent, if you try yourself and it doesn't work out, you're only out like 20 dollars..and then you'll have extra paint for the inevitable retouching of a bumper etc.

if he's looking to do it himself properly, materials will be more than $20.

Most people have sandpaper at home, and the paint store by me isn't very expensive (for matched paints), so it isn't terrible is all im saying.

it completely depends on the products recomendation. if you need to sand and they dont recomend a specific grit dont use anything coarser than 180 grit and id feather edge it out, i recomend 180 grit because it wont leave too of deep sand scratches that the paint wont be able to fill in.

The bumper was definitely repainted and they did not use primer. That's why its chipping like that. Those areas are WAY too large for touchup. Have a professional do it. Don't take it to a body shop they charge ridiculous for stuff like this.
Depending on where you live, there's vendors who are mobile and can repair it way cheaper, drive to your home, and have it ready to drive the same day. That's what I do for a living. I work for a company called Colors On Parade. Look it up. They may have someone in your area. Good luck!
