Best Way to Protect Against Head Unit Theft?

I recently bought a Panasonic headunit, and it was stolen a mere three weeks later. The doors were locked and the faceplate was off (although it was in my center glove compartment). I live in a really good neighborhood, and never thought I was in any danger of having my CD player stolen, but it happened. I'm looking for a new one, and was wondering if you guys had any advice on how I can prevent this from happening in the future.

I'm sure they found the faceplate in his center console, DJNAS.
Kinda sounds like an inside jo to me, somebody who knew you just bought a new radio ganked it. Or they told someone else and they ganked it. It's suprising somone would break into a car and steal a radio with no faceplate, although many people who remove the faceplate leave it in the glove box or the center console, I do it myself.
I think the only thing you can do is get an alarm system that pages you when it goes off. Taking the faceplate off is a good deterrent, this sounds fishy.

His car wasn't in the freakin' Bronx! He lives in a real nice neighborhood, he took off the faceplate and he had the radio for a mere 3 weeks. It's suprising it got stolen at all, let alone so soon.
Leaving an Integra alone in the Bronx is a real accurate measuring tool to determine the likelyhood of a faceplateless radio being stolen.

ok for real it sounds like a inside job .... hay whats the point of a face plate if you leave it in the car .. might as well leave the key in the car too . ... people will steal anything even a head unit cuz you can get the face plate for it on ebay ...

tint the shit out of your windows. i had 2 1/2% on my old car and you couldnt even tell there was an interior to the car let alone a head unit lol. if not then go all high tech and install a mini security camera in your car and catch them in the act. then you can either call the cops or call your boys, hunt the dudes down, and throw them a good ass whoopin lol :guns:

i'm pretty sure, all of us here who has a removal faceplate, leave it inside of the car, in some sort of hiding place, cuz who the hell would carry that shit around with them? all they have to do is look around and find it.

alarm is a good idea, but you gonna need something more high tech then the ones that just makes a annoying siren. two way remote/pager, glassmite, etc...

just be paranoid and jumpy and always check on your car...lol yeah im with everybody else get an alarm that pages you when its going off. i feel for you loss. but whenver and wherever you get a headunit or any other electronic device installed in your car give another address. Some of those fucking punks will take note of your address and whether or not you have an alarm or not. How do i know this you ask? it happened to my friend and he has security surveilance at his house, they caught the kid and it was on the news about a year and a half back...the punk worked at best buy and was getting alot of people. well anyways my friend and his dad caught the kid in the act and beat him really bad with THE CLUB..YES THE CLUB. ..they also spit on him and stomped him until the cops came.

if you wanna take it to a bit of an extreme you could maybe shave your door handles and locks and then install door poppers. then maybe get some bullet proof glass so they cant smash out your windows to get in  or if all else fails just do it ghetto style and hook up your head unit but just leave it sit in the slot. then when you park you can just pull out the whole thing and take it with you lol

I'm really liking that idea. I was thinking about doing the fake OEM radio cover.

Aftermarket head unit covered by an OEM radio face plate.
