Hello. I was driving down the street yesterday, and it felt like my car had somehow lost its alignment. I turned onto a side street, drove about 50 yards and the car slammed to the ground. When I got out and looked, the front passenger's wheel was pointed to the left and sticking out of the car. I had it towed to a mechanic and after glancing at it, he said it looked like the ball joint went bad, and he thought that when the car slammed into the pavement, the CV shaft broke. Has this ever happened to anyone else? I'm just guessing that the ball joint and/or wheel bearing had wear and tear on it/them from being old and it/they simply separated from the tire. Does that sound right? Any ideas on how much it should cost to fix?
