Bad wiring.

So I found out what the problem was that was causing my tail lights to not work. The wire that comes out of Fuse 5 isnt getting power so its probly cut some where we just dont know where yet. My step dad is an electrician so we just jumped power from the main power wire which is a thick solid white wire to the other smaller powered wire, which is a white with gray. After we got everything hooked back up I notice my gauge lights still dont work. Could my dimmer switch be the problem? Also my clock and radio lights dim when I turn the switch to on.

clock and radio are a different fuse... not sure why your gauge lights aren't working tho... check for power at the dimmer switch.

Also, you should probably put a fuse in that spliced wire... They have fuses for a reason.

actually my lights do work my bad. I jus couldnt tell it was pretty light out. Why does my clock and radio dim when I turn my switch on. And we didnt splice the wire we just ran a different wire off of it.

either way, you need a fuse in that line.

the lights dim because it's supposed to be "easier" on your eyes while driving. Some people cut the wire behind the clock so it doesn't dim anymore for ya.... but I don't remember what wire it is. You can search on G2IC.com. It's on there.

kutcha's right about the fuse. When you jump a wire bypassing a fuse, you risk everything getting power from that wire. Better safe than sorry. Chances are a thin wire wont carry that much current, but it's more susceptible to burning up from heat.
