ok so im running a 350 watt max mono amp with a 10 " 600 watt max sub. today while on the freeway the amp just suddenly went into protection mode and it wont go back to normal idk waht i did wrong. i used regular specker wire from the amp to sub box i grounded it to the stell thing where the tire sits in a 94 ls. what could be the problem im not sure what watt the amp wire kit was but would that really put it into this state. ive used it for about 3 to four days no problems till today. my amp was also bolted onto the side of my box vertically. so please help me find a soultion. to this problem. and also with my specker and rca wires unpluged it still is in protection mode and i also have not had the gain or hz above half way so its not even running at full power.

well first of all u need a better gound. u need to get ur self a self tapping screw with a lock washer and screw it into the chassis of the car so its real good and solid. and as far as ur amp if u have the speaker disconnected from it and it still goes into protect then u have ur self a bad amp. most likely u were clipping ur amp and thats what fried it. u gotta make sure u have the right ohm configuration wired into ur amp. say ur amp is 2ohm stable and u run a speaker that is 1ohm ur gonna fry ur amp. so make sure u match ur speaker up with ur amp or vice versa . hoped this helped fo u

WTF is protection mode? I never heard of it.

When my amp doesnt work, id check all the fuses for it. However many on the amp itself and the one on the power wire near the battery.

The ground most people commonly use is the bolt that holds the lower part of the rear seats down. Just hit up the area with some super low grit sandpaper to get the metal showing under the paint and youre good :thumbs up

When the amp cut off. Is the power LED light on the amp is on? I know on the older amps when it get to hot it cut off to cool down.

Protection Mode is a common feature on Amplifiers and Head Units.

Usually it's protecting itself from a circuit which is either failing to ground, or grounding when it shouldn't be. The most common issues are your ground wire not making flush enough contact with the amp or it's grounding contact point, or, one of your speaker wires may be grounding out.

My deck went into protection mode a while ago, and it becomes completely useless until you correct whatever is creating the problem. In my case, one of the speaker wires to my front left door speaker had come a little bit loose and was making direct contact with a metal part of the door, grounding it out. As soon as I patched it up, the deck fired up normally.

get a better ground, change the fuses, make sure everything is wired up correctly including your power and ground connection and the headunit as well.

if that doesnt work just borrow a friends amp to see if its a connection problem in your car or if its just your amp.

i am sure ur amp is fried man. ive been installing at a shop for over 4 years now and i see ur problem all the time. like i said ur ground needs to be redone but think about it if it wasnt grounded it wouldnt turn on at all. u say it was fine and now it still turns on but is in protect. so that right there tells u have a ground. it might not be the best but it still turns the amp on. and its not gonna be any fuses cause if it was a fuse once again ur amp wouldnt turn on eather. like i said in my 1st post the easiest way to test for a bad amp is to disconnect what ever speakers that are connected to it and if it still goes into protect ur stuff is toast
