Alternator trouble.

CAHLEAN!
Hey everyone! So yesterday on my way to work my battery light came on. On my break my ABS light came on with my battery. It drove fine and when i went over 5k rpms the light would go off and come back on as soon as it went below 5k. So i have it narrowed down to the alternator. I drove it for the rest of the day and it eventually quite running. I checked the fuse and there was a 20a fuse but it was supposed to be a 15a. I only had a 30a fuse as a spare so I put it in and it works! Does anyone know what it could be? I haven' had time to replace it with a 15a yet but i'd like some ideas if that doesnt work. (or for someone in the future). I think it could be the rectifier bridge in the alternator but i'd like to be more sure before i start tearing my stuff apart.

hard to say, take it out. get it checked if its bad then u already have it out so replace the bish...if not then u might have another problem. only takes about an hr to take it out, i replaced mine and took me longer because i didnt know what i was doing. i replaced mine with a 300A alt and alittle more expensive lol

oh and i see u have a 92 might be different....either way u can take it to the autoparts store to get it checked

Does your battery go dead? I had the same problem. Had the Alternator tested and it tested good but without a load on it. The way I always checked alternators was to have the car running and turn your headlights on a/c exect. Whatever draws power. Then unhook your battery. If it dies its the Alternator. If not you have other issues.

ya i agree pull the positive off your battery while its running...and if it dies like he said its your alternator...worked for my 93 LS

Be careful pulling off the pos cable can be damaging to the ecu's best to have it tested the correct way with a vat 45 or parts store tester and also should be tested two to three time in a row to exclude intermident problems also they both put a load on alternator durning testing.
