Alpine CDA-9886 couple questions, again for you Barry!

First of all I want to say thanks for all of the help guys, especially everything you've told or recommended to me Barry.

So I received my new receiver today, and I have questions about it. This is my first receiver with three sets of preamps. The Alpine that I've got in there now only has one set-rear, which I have connected to the amp, and then the amp powering all speakers. Now unfortunately, I'm going to have to run with this amp until I have enough money to buy another one so I need to know how to wire it. Should I connect the RCAs to the front or rear preamps? Also, what are these switches? They're on the underside of the headunit, top to bottom.

Are they selection switches for the preamp outputs? Like norm is for connection direct to speakers, and ext ap is for connection to an external amp? Excuse if this is a retarded question, or obvious answer, I just want to be sure.
Also, how do I know which switch is for which set of outputs? Here are the outputs, top to bottom.

Just in case you guys were curious, here's the sex:

I've never seen a deck with switches like that on the underside. Sorry, the newest Alpine I own is from 2002, heh. Doesn't the owners manual tell you what they do?

What amp do you have?

Not sure what the switches are for but I would just leave them on normal. As for your signal routing dilemma, you can plug your RCA's in to the front OR rear out. It doesn't matter. You just have to make sure and set the fader to 100% front or 100% rear on the settings of the head unit.

Unfortunately I bought it from Crutchfield Scratch & Dent, so it didn't come with the manual. I'll just give their advisors a call and find out about the switches.
As for the amp, I know it's a Rockford Punch series, I can't recall the model right now, and the car is in the shop. But as soon as I get it back I'll check and get back to you for more info.

Oh okay, thanks. That's weird though, as the old HU I had in there only had rear preamps but the fader wasn't set to 100% rear, and all four speakers still worked..:what:

dont fuck with the switches unless you have an external equalizer. they have a special name for the component. i have this head unit. just dont mess with the switches. the RCA ports are fronts on top. rears in the middle and subs on the bottom.

Well yeah I knew that, they're labeled..lol

But thanks for clearing up the switches for me. So ext am doesn't mean external amp?

You don't have to do that. As long as the fader is set at flat, moving it from flat to 100% or anywhere in between doesn't make a difference.

There is no need to mess with the fader until you start fine tuning. OP was asking what the switches were please stay on topic.

That's what I thought. I was thinking that the only issue would be that the fader would no longer function?
