Ah, a good build idea?

I have a 90 LS motor in my teg, and i wrote the thread about looking for a "middlle ground", well i found my middle ground. I think what ill do is rebuild my engine in its stock form, but ill have a semi-built head.

It'll consist of B20 cams, LS head milled .020", dual valve springs, and mild port/polish/valve job. and back-cut valves.

I'm not sure how this will run, but to those of you who have read this thread, how does that build sound?

if youre gonna port the head, just go all the way with it. no mild bullshit, let that bitch breathe proper.

ONLY couches pull out!!!!
if your staying ls.

itr pistons, p8r b20 head, crower 404 cams...adj cam gears............ys1 trans.......easy 14 second car.

ok and?

still works....my buddy has built two ls/p engines........pull real hard.........still missing that high end kick.

but fun as shit for a stop light car.

never said it doesnt work... just stated that it has 84mm combustion chamber...

just realize there are inherent problems running an engine with 81mm bore with a head that has 84mm combustion chamber.

compression will be lower, headgasket isn't going to match both the head or block, its either the LS gasket or the P8R gasket, and the lip resulting from the larger combustion chamber of the head to the smaller bore of the block isn't going to be so great for smooth air flow.

good point^

but its on the internet... so it must be true... rofl rofl

no it should work fine, but you are right about the difference, and the bad air flow

well I've heard that the b20 cam specs in the ls motor work realli good, almost lik a stage 1 cam....but idk. I think ill look into it as well, ill go look for the cam specs and compare em. and i've already got the ls head and dualvalve springs, so to make it 'complete', ill just portandpolish it "properly" lolol and just get the rest of the build done in the way I was gonna do before.

Bringing the beast back from the dead.

If anyone else has any info on the P8R I would be interested. I am aware of the overlap, and the possible turbulence in the combustion chamber, but what I am more curious about, is the possible hot spots being created from the pocket in the combustion chamber from hanging over the LS bore.

Mine wont be as big of an overlap as a stock LS, as I bored mine out to 82mm, but I still have 66% of the overlap that a 81mm block would have.

i agree that if you're going to do a built head set up, might as well go with an after market cam, the gain from a b20 cam is going to be very minimal
