I have a clifford alarm system (came with the car) the dude told me it needed a new battery. changed the battery. the alarm does not work. when i hit the lock button the lights light up, but it does not beep as it should. i checked the horn under the hood. its all hooked up. everything seems to be wired up correctly. what could it be?

Not all alarms honk the siren when they're armed. Many alarms have an option of not honking when it's armed/disarmed, maybe your honk is shut off intentionally. Does the alarm lock the doors and arm when you push lock?

It's probably in valet mode. Is the alarm LED on solid? Do you know where they valet button is? Hold the button down and turn the key forward. The LED will go out and after that it will blink. Many of those alarms will let you do it with the alarm remote. Download the manual or try hitting lock, unlock, lock rapidly. Sometimes you use aux, depends on which model and remote you have.

the doors do NOT lock when i hit the lock button. the LED light does light up but does not stay lit up.

is this the valet button?

i got it so the LED does blink now. when you open the door (unlocked) the lights outside start to blink. but again, no horn is going off.

its mostly the connections on the alarm to the car.

best bet, take a look at the alarm and make sure all the connections that go to the car's wire harnesses are on tight.
i had the same problem with the alarm on my civic. i changed the way it was hooked up when i installed a new alarm and it works brilliantly.

ran all the wires back to under the wheel (what a fucking mess!) everything is hooked to the harness correctly.

found a switch have no clue what it is. one wire from the switch runs to a ground, and the other white one runs to something behind the battery. no clue what it is but it was disconnected

does the alarm have a valet switch? would probably be under the dash near the steering column somewhere! I have a clifford alarm aswell and had the exact same problem when i got my car. Until i found the valet switch that had been knocked into the off position

it does have a valet switch, thats how it got it to actually light up when the doors open

sounds like the horn/siren was disconnected, and the alarm is going off which is why you're only seeing the lights going nuts. If no buttons from the remote work the car, it probably needs to be reprogrammed - what model is it?

if you're convinced you've found the valet/programming button, turn the key on, press the valet button twice but on the second press, hold it - while holding, press the lock button on the remote. the lights should flash and it should be all set..

this is if its a recent Clifford unit. if that doesnt work, get the model number

i got it to light up by turning the key and pressing the valet button twice. its an older cliffard unit. ace 2000 im pretty sure

Some alarms can be programmed to have the siren not go off when the alarm is tripped. The Alpine sec-8063 for example. Some people do this if they have a pager to tell them when the alarm's going off, or so they're not annoying the neighborhood if the alarm has falsing problems. Just a thought. Best thing is to actually test those siren wires. Or maybe the siren has gone bad, they are exposed to alot of crap under the hood, (that's one reason I install my siren's in the cabin).

Download you owners manual HERE.
