so i was driving it last night and i pushed it a little but i wasn't banging gears or anything. I woke up this morning and my clutch felt soft and i started driving then i went to accelerate and the RPM's went up and the car didn't go faster so i immediately knew my clutch was slipping and the car was smoking. so i immediately limped the car to the shop and we found trans fluid on the trans, then my friend pulled the trans out and found a crack on the inside of the trans case, so i've been told i have to rebuild with new case, (expensive), or they could try to weld it (i don't think thats a long term solution) or i could just pick up a new trans (new / new to me trans). what causes the trans to crack? I thought maybe it could be related to my previous clutch actually cracked and lost a 2 inch chunk that was moving around the trans case. but who knows at this point if that has anything to do with it. what do you all think?

btw: i search for thread like this but didn't find anything.

well i actually already picked up a new trans for mine is up for sale, the "bell housing" is the part that needs to be replaced but the trans worked well before it cracked. i got a jdm gsr trans (i was told it has a lil shorter gears and Limited slip)

nothing from nowhere
was it a blow out crack, like a piece of gear from the inside?

I know down shifting at really high rpm's can actually make your transmision swell up. But I've only seen this on t-5's for mustangs but It happens alot. that might be it.
