Hello all. I am new to the Integra world as well as these forums! I am having a problem with my automatic transmission in my car that I am hoping a member can shed some light on.

My Integra is having issues going into th gear. Sometimes is will go in fine and other times it will not go in at all and I am stuck driving the highway in 4th gear. I have noticed that it seems to go into 5th on the second or third drive of the day. Once it find 5th gear it will shift in and out of it fine until the next day then is is crap shoot on whether it will work the next day. All the other gears are fine. I checked the transmission fluid and it was alittle low so I topped that off, but it has not helped. Any ideas? Thanks!

Auto transmissions in Integra only come in 4 speed. What you are feeling is the car down shifting from 4th to 3rd to gain speed faster. Also I recommend changing out the trans fluid via drain and refill method abducted use royal purple atf. It's pricey, but well worth it.

I must have overdirve or something. I am pretty sure it is a 5th gear though. There is a distinct difference I can see and feel on the days it is working. On the days it is working I can drive at 60mph and the rpms will be around 2600-2700. On the days it is not working at 60mph the rpms are 3000. It is rather annoying as my gas milage I am sure is decreaseing and I dont want to be hurting the car driving in 4th gear all the time.

I noticed to that sometimes I can get it to go into this gear by mashing the gas and it will sometimes go in as the rpms get way up there.

The gear selector in my car shows P,N,D,S4,S3,S2

I don't know exactly if second gens have overdrive, but my third gen doesn't have a button for it. I know when you are driving and you stay at one speed for a while the rpm's will drop a bit. Is there a button under the button you press to change gears on the shifter.

i'm pretty sure there isn't a 5th gear, D4 4th gear is considered over drive on these honda's.. D3 is for city driving..

Yes I have a button below the shifter and it is labeled S4. I have pressed it several times while driving today and it did nothing while I was in drive.

The car did the same thing today with not going into that upper gear until the third drive of the day. Sure like to know what is going on.

There seems to be a problem with your 5th gear... It's not there.

O/D is the 4th gear.. Anywho, Probably could use a flush or in worse case a new transmission.

I have a 94 auto and its def a 4spd with overdrive. So apparently your overdrive gear isn't working properly because I'll be at 3000rpm going 70mph. I knoe this is a little late, but I didn't know the D3 was for city driving, wats the difference?;

Different rpm ranges so you can speed up faster. Driving in D4 in the city is like me in my 5 speed LS trying to drive around in 5th at 40mph.
