k so i jus bought a 92 integra for $400 bucks. bodys mint and came with a set of enkeis. the only thing is the kid doesnt know whats wrong with it. it starts but doesnt stay running for long. he was told by a friend it could be a bad piston or some sort of rod in the block.....ideas before i start ripping the thing apart????????

Is it throwing a CEL code?
Don't rip the motor apart until you know it isn't something simple like a clogged fuel filter or bad plugs and wires. Check all the basic stuff.

Only a few seconds. My friend said it could jus need a valve job done.

There are many thing that could be wrong with the motor. There are three things it needs to run. Think of it as a triangle. you have air, fuel and spark. Any one of those being taken away will cause the car to die. If you start it and push on the accelerator pedal will it still die? or does it only die at idle. What do the spark plugs look like, are they black, fouled sirty etc?. How much fuel is in the tank and how old is it? the basic things to start with would be, a new air filter, fuel filter, spark plugs, cap, rotor and wires. That will mostly cover your basic tuneup. Don't forget to change the oil and filter because dirty oil can cause issues also. There are several engine control solenoids and sensors that can cause poor performance or stalling. A bad piston, rod or bad valves and seats are fairly expensive things to replace and rarely go bad unless the engine was seriously pounded on, so I would start with the basics first. Besides, if it ends up being something internal and you have to tear the motor apart to fix it, once its back together youll have a brand new tuneup on it and it should run smoothe. Also, like another member asked, is the orange check engine light on in your instrument cluster?

So it has a weak crank? Start with the battery in that case, it's probably weak if it hasn't ran in a while.

edit: Great cheap find by the way, good luck!

good place to start. See what happens with the new battery, plugs, wires, cap and rotor. I wouldnt change the distributor unless it turns out to be bad because they are quite pricey and not necessary to replace unless they are bad. When you do the cap and rotor, pull the old cap and rotor off and install the new cap and rotor then plug with old wires into the same holes in the new cap that they were in on the old cap, and once you have done all four, replace the wires one at a time. That way theres no chance of getting 2 of them mixed up. Even if you have done tuneups before its always good to do that because some motors (like the 454 chevy in my jetboat) will run perfectly with 2 of the wires crossed lol.
